How To Make It Through The Night With Tooth Pain

If you get a toothache and you aren't able to get right in to the dentist, you need to find a way to cope with the pain until you can get an appointment. Tooth pain can be so extreme it can leave you unable to think of anything else and you'll need to ease the pain until the dentist can see you. Follow some of the tips below to relieve the pain of a tooth ache so that you can hopefully get some sleep the night before your appointment.

Clean the area

Sometimes tooth pain can happen when a small piece of food gets stuck in an area of your tooth. This is why one of the first things you should do is to make sure you clean the area well and try to flush out any food that may be caught and causing the pain. Do this by swishing around mouthwash and water a few times.

Use chips of ice

This may sound like very scary advice. Most people cringe when they think about putting ice on a hurting tooth. However, doing this will actually help take away the pain temporarily by numbing the area. Also, if there is any swelling of the gums, it can help to reduce the swelling. Just put a nice sized chip on the affected tooth and gently bite down on it until it melts.

Use clove oil

You can also use clove oil to get rid of tooth pain. You want to take a cotton ball and dip it into the clove oil. Put the cotton ball on the affected tooth and keep it there for a few moments. You may find that the clove oil stings at first, but it will relieve the pain after a minute or two and clove oil relief can last for a good amount of time, helping you to make it through the wait to see the dentist much easier.

Use a hot tea bag

You may find that a hot tea bag can help take away your tooth pain. Tea has tannic acid in it which helps to reduce swelling. Also, many people find the heat of the tea bag to bring them some relief from tooth pain.

When you have a toothache, you want to make sure you call for a dentist appointment right away. The sooner you get in to see your dentist, like those at Larsen-Haslem Dental, the sooner you can get to the root of the problem and have it treated properly.
